Review: Animal Attraction (Animal Magnetism #2) - Jill Shalvis*

She’s tempting his basic instincts…
Sunshine, Idaho, is a quiet ranching town, a perfect place to give injured animals a refuge…or to find one yourself. Veterinarian Dell Connelly suspects there’s a reason his clinic’s uber-efficient receptionist has taken shelter here.
Jade Bennett couldn’t be happier to escape the big-city jungle to work with hurt animals, and have a forlorn stray kitten make its home under her desk…or enjoy the gorgeous views of her ruggedly sexy boss.
Jade is used to planning everything in her life, but Dell’s seductive, alluring ways have sparked an uncontrollable desire. And though Dell has never had time for love, Jade’s strength and sass is the kind of call no red-blooded male can resist…

Last month I reviewed the first in the Animal Magnetism series by Shalvis and since then I've been off devouring them all and I have to say I am loving this series. Shalvis is quickly becoming one of my go to authors for a quick, heart-warming romance with added steam and emotion.

At the end of Animal Magentism I was most intrigued to read Dell's story, my favourite of the two brothers featured in the first novel, and I was so pleased to find that his was the next in the series.

Dell is the playful, charming, heartbreaking co-owner of the Belle Haven veterinary centre whose affable exterior hides some serious abandonment and commitment issues. Jade is a woman running from her past, having survived a traumatic event she has come to Sunshine to escape the memories still haunting her. Dancing around their attraction for one another since the day that Jade turned up at Belle Haven, their relationship finally takes that important step forward when Dell decides to help Jade tackle her demons.

The relationship between Dell and Jade which is tentatively hinted at in Animal Magnetism is fully explored in Animal Attraction and we get to see their close friendship develop into a wonderful romance. Shalvis does an enviable job at revealing the emotions of both characters, the slow burn of their relationship and the building of the sexual tension between the two is paced really well and the book, interlaced with some great steamy scenes, practically flies by. The darker side of Dell and Jade's characters really adds that extra depth, Shalvis expertly balances a wonderfully heat-warming romantic story alongside the exploration of some serious issues and still manages to throw in plenty of laughs.

An additional bonus to the book is that due to the close nature of the merry band of brothers we get to see a lot of Lilah and Brady from the first book, their inclusion doesn't seem forced at all (as sometimes happens in some other series) and it's wonderful to see their relationship continue after their HEA.

Despite professing that Dell is my favourite brother I can't wait to read Adam's story too, as soon as I have a lazy day you can guarantee I am curling up with a nice cup of tea and Rescue My Heart.
